Looking for the perfect place to host a gathering? The Neighbourhood Social House is available for private events on Sundays and Mondays — family celebrations, corporate meetings, showers, birthdays, or any special occasion — for groups of up to 30 guests in a warm and inviting setting.

More than a restaurant. More than a bar. We’re where people come together to eat, drink, connect, and feel at home.

Meet John Fisher

back where it began

“Why a bar and bistro? Why now? Why Belleville?”

People often ask me that. The answer is simple: this is where it all began.

After graduating from Loyalist College’s Hospitality Management program, my first opportunities were right here in Belleville — Dudley’s Roadhouse, Gabriel’s, The Queen’s Hotel, and Moviola Café. The 1980s were an incredible time. Lifelong friendships were formed, lessons were learned, and a passion for hospitality was born.

In 1992, I returned to Belleville and opened Dagwood’s Bar & Grill with a business partner. What followed was a career journey that took me farther than I could have ever imagined.

An opportunity that grew out of my time at Moviola Café took me to the Toronto area to run my own restaurant. From there, new doors kept opening — hotels, entertainment venues, and one of Canada’s largest nightclub operations, Club 2000, where we hosted emerging Canadian artists alongside international performers.

When Dave & Buster’s expanded into Canada, I was selected for training in the United States as part of the opening management team, and was promoted to General Manager shortly after opening. That led to work with an international hospitality company operating venues around the world — Poland, the UK, Florida, Wisconsin, New York, New Jersey, and even the United Arab Emirates — across casinos, hotels, entertainment complexes, race tracks, resorts, and restaurants.

In 2018, it was time to come home to Canada. Kingston became home, and I was fortunate to work in several rewarding leadership roles, including at the Faculty Club at Queen’s University. And now, life has brought me back to Belleville.

After decades in hospitality, I’ve seen the industry from every angle. But what I’ve learned is that hospitality isn’t really about buildings, brands, or size. It’s about people. The friendships I’ve made along the way are among my greatest blessings.

The Neighbourhood Social House is the culmination of everything I’ve learned. It’s not about being the biggest venue — it’s about creating a place where people feel welcome, where conversations happen naturally, and where everyone feels like they belong.

So, hello again, Belleville. It’s good to be back.
